Students Musical Instruments

Following our very successful Strings concerts – a couple of instruments went briefly astray and many more were left in the music department over the weekend. This has resulted in music staff searching high and low for the missing equipment, and some naturally very worried students and parents. As all the instruments look very alike when they are in their cases, please, please label them clearly. This not only helps us identify them at school but also helps in the unfortunate event should they be left at the station or on the train/tram/bus. You don’t need your telephone number – just name and Collingwood College and the school telephone number.
Insurance for your instruments – if you student has an instrument which is beyond absolute beginner quality ($100 or so), please consider insuring it. It is often possible to add it to you home and contents policy for little extra and should disaster befall it at least you will be largely covered, bearing in mind any excess. The school is not responsible for damage to instruments and damage can easily occur by accident as the instruments are transported around the school. Better safe than sorry.
Purchasing a second-hand instrument for your child – the music staff will always be more than happy to check out your purchase prior to any payment changing hands. This way, we can ensure a correct fit, make sure there is no damage to the instrument, check the bow, and most importantly, ensure that you are getting value for money. Remember learning a stringed instrument is hard work and a student will have the task made so much more difficult on a poor quality or ill-fitting instrument. Hiring may be a better option for a short while whilst you seek the right instrument. Please contact the music department on Ph 9412 7712 for advice or assistance with instruments or to make a time to see your student’s instrumental teacher.
